Earlier today, LeBron James shared a reactionary tweet coming to the defense of his frequent on-court rival, Steph Curry, after Trump “withdrew” his invitation to have the Golden State Warriors visit the White House—an opportunity that Curry had vocalized prior he had no plans in participating in.
Hours after King James’ commentary went viral, the Cleveland Cavaliers player decided to elaborate on his 140-character tweet, sharing a video on Uninterrupted to further clarify his original statement.
“It’s basically at a point where I’m just a little frustrated, man, because this guy that we’ve put in charge has tried to divide us once again,” the James says. “Obviously we all know what happened with Charlottesville and the divide that caused. Now, it’s hitting home for me even more because he’s using sports as a platform to try and divide us. We all know how much sports brings us together, the passion it has, how much we love and care, the friendships it creates. For him to use this platform to divide us, even more, is not something I can stand for and not something I can be quiet about.”

It doesn’t take much for LeBron James to win over his fans, but a recent comment on Twitter certainly made it easy for his followers to show the NBA champion some extra love today.
Earlier Saturday morning (Sept. 23) James penned a simple-but-honest tweet backing Steph Curry, who has found himself in the crosshairs of President Trump after receiving (and declining) an invitation to visit the White House.
After Curry vocalized he wouldn’t be taking up the president on such an opportunity, Trump withdrew his offer to the Golden State Warriors, adding that the NBA star was “hesitating.”
“U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going!” James posted on his Twitter, which boasts a colossal following of 38M. “So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!”
The tweet, which has already been retweeted over 280K times, has certainly got everyone talking this afternoon, with many responding in support of Curry’s decision to pass on the invitation.
“By acting and not going, hopefully that will inspire some change when it comes to what we tolerate in this country and what is accepted and what we turn a blind eye to,” Curry shared in a previous statement addressing the matter. “We have an opportunity to send a statement that hopefully encourages unity, encourages us to just appreciate what it means to be American and stand for something.”
Curry’s teammate, Kevin Durant, also stands in solidarity with Curry, sharing with ESPN that he doesn’t “respect who’s in office right now.” Durant also added, “I don’t agree with what he agrees with, so my voice is going to be heard by not doing that.”
