Serena Williams has reportedly given birth to her first child with fiancé Alexis Ohanian, a healthy baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces.
Naturally, fans of the iconic tennis player couldn’t help but immediately take note of the fact that she just so happened to give birth in the middle of the U.S. Open, with many interpreting the fateful coincidence to mean her daughter must be destined to inherit her legendary athleticism.
According to reports, the six-time U.S. Open winner was admitted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday and was induced on Thursday, with her and fiancé officially welcoming their baby girl earlier Friday afternoon (Sept. 1).
Williams, who became engaged to the Reddit co-founder back in December 2016, kept her pregnancy under wraps in the early stages, announcing the exciting news back in April around the 20-week mark.
While the new mom recovers, with her and her baby girl both doing well, Williams’ sister Venus is competing during the U.S. Open, sharing her reaction to the news moments before her third-round match.
“I’m super excited,” she shared with ESPN, courtside. “Words can’t describe.”
Beyoncé was one of the first to get wind of the happy news and was quick to post public congratulations via Instagram, sharing a stunning throwback photo of a still-pregnant Williams posing graciously.
Williams, in true form to her legacy, is planning on beginning training as soon as November, barring any complications, according to her coach, Patrick Mouratolglou.
Many congrats to Williams and her family!
