Al Sharpton has always had a lot to say, and that continued with his appearance on The Breakfast Club this morning. Throughout his sit down with DJ Envy, Charlamagne The God and Angela Yee, the legendary civil rights activist addressed Jay-Z’s “Al Sharpton in the mirror takin’ selfies” lyric, Donald Trump and racist monuments.

The interview opened with the Reverend addressing Jay-Z’s lyrical barbs at him on his new hit album 4:44. “Al Sharpton in the mirror takin’ selfies / How is him or Bill Cosby pose to help me?” Jay said on “Family Feud.”

“He shouldn’t be jealous,” joked Sharpton, who has in the past dealt with being the target of a Hov bar. A response could be in the works, according to Sharpton. “I’ll slip in a sermon or two to keep it even,” he jokingly said.

In the wake of the recent white nationalist rallies that have gained national media attention, many people from varying walks of life have called for the removal of all monuments that honor former slave owners, Confederate soldiers, or historic figures who were known racists. Sharpton spoke sharply, pointing out that American tax dollars fund the upkeep of these statues that are attached to a history of hate. “You got a right to celebrate who you want,” said the reverend. “You don’t have a right to tell me to pay for it when they enslaved and raped and maimed my people.”

The 62-year old was also asked if he feels our current president, Donald Trump is a racist. He admitted that he wasn’t going to call “The issue is not whether he is a racist. The issue is he administers racism,” said Sharpton.

When Charlamagne asked Sharpton if he expected to still be fighting for the civil liberties of and equality for Black people after all these years, the Reverend responded, “I never thought I would, but never was not willing to do it.
