Even without dropping a studio album in 2016, the Justin Bieber stimulus package has been operating strong. Besides the success behind his Purpose World Tour, the Biebs’ midas touch is responsible for two of the biggest No. 1 singles this year: DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One” and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito.” Now he brings the magic for his own song.
While in the midst of what is being described as “the most bulletproof run of his career,” Bieber releases his first new song in two years and it sounds like a hit.
Titled “Friends,” the bouncy, electronic tune is co-written by Julia Michaels and finds Bieber teaming with longtime collaborator BloodPop, who produced and cowrote a number of tracks on Purpose including “Sorry.” Together, the pair cook up a Purpose-ful track that is sure to carry on the singer’s hit streak as he is coming up on two years since he dropped Purpose, his last album.
