Last week, Dej Loaf admitted that she was, ironically, a little nervous to drop her song “No Fear.” The record isn’t gutter like her breakout hit “Try Me,” but it is a melodic, feel-good, summertime delight in which the Detroit native tells her high school sweetheart to not be intimidated by her stardom and to further explore their love.
“I know my life can get so crazy but as long as you’re right here / Let ’em all gossip, nothing can stop us / I’m gonna love you with no fears,” she sings on the chorus. “We can do this thing together / Close your eyes and take my hand / Cause what we have is something special / Baby, let’s just take our chance.”
Dej, who at one time was romantically linked to Lil Durk but is now single, said her new track is about love, but has a deeper meaning as well.
“The song, I was inspired to write about just love and having no fear and loving someone,” she explained. “Being in a fearless relationship with someone, bascially. In this industry, it gets hard dating. I wish to find someone I can just ride or die with. That was the inspiration behind it. But, once again, it resonates with everyone and it’s just about not having fear about anything and just living life how you want to.”
Dej’s first official LP Liberated will be released later this year.
