Despite an admittedly short career in the industry so far, J.I.D., the newest signee to Dreamville Records, has already been compared to Kendrick Lamar with his style of rap; think: story-telling abilities with vivid imagery and portrayals of the street life.

The East Atlanta rapper built up a solid fanbase for himself dating back to the drop of his 2015 DiCaprio EP and proved to be an underground sensation.

Upon leaving his roots back in Atlanta, the young MC headed to Virginia to attend college at Hampton University where he began to take his music career more seriously. During his time spent there, J.I.D. linked up with EarthGang, an Atlanta duo consisting of rappers Johnny Venus and Doctor Dot and, with them, got the opportunity to travel on tour with Bas and Ab-Soul during which he created a stage presence for himself and began to build a relationship with the Dreamville artists.

Fast forwarding into 2017, the young rapper just inked a deal with J.Cole and his aforementioned label serving as even further evidence that Cole is a huge supporter of J.I.D. and his Spillage Village movement; after all, Cole collaborated with the group on their project Bears Like This Too Much.
