Back in April 2015, multiple gunshots were fired at Lil Wayne’s tour bus following an appearance at Compound nightclub in Atlanta. Several members of Young Money were inside the vehicle, but no one sustained any injuries.

Still, according to Courthouse News, bus driver Alvin Lewis is now suing Birdman, Young Thug, Cash Money Records, Young Money Records, and Jimmy Carlton Winfrey—the man who shot at the bus.

Cell phone records indicated that Winfrey contacted Birdman and Thug before and after he fired shots from, police say, his white 2015 Chevrolet Camaro with a .40 caliber and 9mm handgun. However, according to court documents, Winfrey claimed Birdman “should be held liable as a party to the crime” as he believes it was the financial dispute between Wayne and Birdman that led to the shooting.

According to Rolling Stone, Winfrey was eventually sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by 10 years on probation, after reaching a deal in which he pled guilty to six gang-related charges, not the 30 counts on which he was initially indicted.

Birdman and Young Thug were not formally charged despite being named as Winfrey’s associates in the indictment.

According to the suit, filed in Georgia’s Cobb County State Court, Lewis alleges the defendants placed him “in immediate fear of death and severe bodily harm by attacking and attempting to kill him without any just provocation or cause” and claims he “has suffered and continues to suffer substantial and continuing pain, anguish, suffering, discomfort, medical expenses, lost personal and professional property and lost wages.”

Lewis is suing for assault and battery, breach of contract and intentional infliction of distress, among other charges, and is seeking unspecified damages.
