After months of being held in South Africa on criminal charges for trying to exit the country with a passport not recognized by the Government, yasiin bey formerly known as Mos Def was allowed to leave today. All he had to do was apologize, and, provide a valid US passport. We now know where the acclaimed MC and actor will be going. At least two of his stops. It was announced today that Bey will be performing for the final time in America at the Apollo Theater and Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to close out this year and kick off 2017.

Bey, who announced his retirement several months ago, will hold court at The Apollo on December 21 and then venture to Washington DC for engagements at the Kennedy Center from December 31 to January 2.

bey is said to be performing songs from a different album each night from his catalog of LPs which include The New Danger, True Magic, The Ecstatic, and Black on Both Sides, as well as brand new material. In addition, a multitude of surprise guest have also been confirmed to contribute to the outings.

“We are so excited to collaborate with the Kennedy Center on what will be a milestone moment in not only hip-hop history but also in popular culture. The Apollo is the epicenter of African American culture and has always been a nurturer and supporter of innovation and artistic brilliance, so it is only fitting that yasiin bey have his final U.S. performances here as his contributions to hip-hop, and music in general, are endless,” said the Apollo Theater’s Executive Producer Kamilah Forbes in a statement. “We are looking forward to creating an unforgettable and celebratory evening for Mr. bey and his fans as he enters the next phase in his career.”

In the wake of his final shows in his home country, the Brooklyn born MC has plans to return to Africa and continue dive into his new love painting and cultivate his “arts, culture, and lifestyle collective ” named A Country Called Earth (ACCE).
