Back in 2014, Jay Z and Will Smith joined forces to produce the remake of the classic film Annie and now they’re doing the same to tell a much different tale.
According to Deadline, the two will back a still-untitled HBO miniseries about Emmett Till, the 14-year-old Mississippi black boy who was murdered in 1955 after allegedly flirting with a white woman and whose death played a major role in the Civil Rights Movement.
The script will be written by Steven Caple, Jr. (who just saw success with his own feature debut, The Land) and will be based on the book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked The World And Propelled The Civil Rights Movement by Devery Anderson.
We can’t wait to see how this turns out.
