When Travis Scott first announced Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight earlier this year, many believed, because of the title’s namesake, that R&B great Brian McKnight would be involved.

But when it hit Apple Music and iTunes last Friday (September 2), McKnight was no where to be seen. However, fans were thrilled on Tuesday (September 6) when the most anticipated collaboration of the year came to be.
The clip, captioned “B*tch U Broke My Heart,” finds McKnight playing his 1993 tearjerker “One Last Cry” as Travis Scott leans over his white piano right by a cage of doves.
McKnight, who appeared alongside Drake last year at the ESPY’s for a sultry slow jam called “Sidepieces,” has been a go-to for several similar R&B iterations over the years and it’s all a testament to the singer’s legendary vocals and venerable stature within music. In an e-mail to REVOLT, McKnight talked about his chance collaboration with Travis, describing it as something that was “spur-of-the-moment.”

“This idea with Travis was all very spur-of- the-moment. I wasn’t sure about it at first, to be honest,” he explained. “This whole “birds in the trap” thing with my name in it, I couldn’t tell what he was trying to say. I’m pretty behind on the popular sayings and these kids have a whole different way to talking, so I wasn’t sure if it was good or not. So when Travis and I spoke, I told him that I wasn’t going to do it if he’s making fun of me. But he said he was a big fan, so that was cool.”
McKnight is currently gearing up to release “An Evening with Brian McKnight,” a DVD special that will include three new songs, including his latest single “Everything.”
“An Evening with Brian McKnight” is slated to arrive September 23rd. Fans can pre-order the upcoming special right here.
