For Young Thug, Jeffery, the title to his forthcoming (and highly anticipated) project, is more than just a batch of music. It’s the beginning of a new chapter.
Lyor Cohen says Young Thug is now “No My Name is Jeffery”
“After Jeffery come out, I hope everybody in the world start acknowledging me as Jeffery,” the “Best Friend” rapper told REVOLT this past weekend as he strolled to the Day N’ Night Festival stage alongside Birdman. As made clear by 300 Entertainment’s Lyor Cohen earlier this week, the project is expected to be a reintroduction of sorts, as the man behind the dark shades and rugged rap name trades in his famous alias for the name listed on his birth certificate: Jeffery.
“I don’t want to be Young Thug anymore,” he said.
Sharing similar sentiments earlier this week, Cohen appeared on the Rap Radar podcast and revealed the rapper would no longer be known as Young Thug. “Young Thug is not going to be Young Thug anymore,” he shared. “His new name is going to be No My Name is Jeffery.”
The chatter surrounding Thug’s name swap couldn’t have arrived at a better time. After all, it comes just as the rapper preps the aforementioned project, which was originally set to arrive on Tuesday (August 16), his 25th birthday. Although an August 26 date was also linked to Jeffery, Thug took to his Instagram page last night and revealed fans should expect it to arrive in “one or two days.” So for now, stay tuned.
