Dominique Trenier, longtime manager of D’Angelo and neo-soul movement mainstay, has died, according to Questlove’s Okayplayer.

Trenier, who can be credited with conceptualizing D’Angelo’s iconic “How Does It Feel” video (though he later admitted feeling “guilty” for doing so), was found dead in his Los Angeles home, the site reported.

A 20-year music industry exec, Trenier produced the debut albums of both Mark Ronson (Here Comes the Fuzz) and Nikka Costa (Everybody Got Their Something), as well as D’Angelo’s Voodoo and the Blow soundtrack. He also convinced Seal to cover what would become one of his few Top 10 hits, “Fly Like an Eagle” for the Space Jam soundtrack (on which Trenier also served as producer alongside R. Kelly).

His cause of death is still unknown, but Okayplayer writes that Trenier was “a magnetic force that pulled brilliant creatives together to realize incredible potential…[and]…a fierce creative/creator that never minded side-stepping into the wings to see his clients and friends alike flourish.”

Questlove honored Trenier on social media earlier, writing, “So much wisdom. So little time.”
