From First To Last, “Bonus Track” Feat. Sonny Moore (a.k.a. Skrillex)
It seems Skrillex has returned to his rock roots, but how long will it last? The megastar producer, real name Sonny Moore, dropped off new music on his Beats 1 radio show over the weekend but not in the typical form his die-hard dubstep fan base is used to. The new unreleased original, speculatively titled “Bonus Track,” sees Sonny once again take on lead vocals with his old band, From First To Last, for a nostalgic ode to the glory days of emo and punk circa the early 2000s. There are no further details as to whether this means Skrillex is ditching electronica or if forthcoming music is imminent from the band, but fans can only hope!—Jordan Diaz
Noname, “Sunny Duet” Feat. theMIND
Chicago artist Noname has finally released her long-awaited debut mixtape Telefone. And for those who don’t know, its announcement was made back in 2012. A whole four years ago. And while this mixtape was executed flawlessly as a whole, one track stood out the most: “Sunny Duet,” featuring fellow Chicago native theMIND. The two artists musically depicted a sunny afternoon, filled with chill vibes, melodic rhymes and vocal chemistry that’s like no other. —Asia Howard
Mir Fontane, “Space Jam”
Thanks to Fetty Wap, a magnifying glass has been placed on New Jersey artists. I can’t remember the last time such a focus was on the Garden State. When Queen Latifah arrived? The Fugees maybe? Shoot, even around the time of the Jonas Brothers? Well either way, I’m very happy it has happened or else I wouldn’t have come across Mir Fontane. This 23-year-old rapper has been steadily making a name for himself, receiving thousands of plays on Soundcloud. This time around, he has teamed up with frequent collaborator Kev Rodgers and vocalist Kam DeLa to lay down an ominous bass-driven, catchy banger with “Space Jam.” —Erin Ashley Simon
