Earlier this month, rumors of a forming supergroup, comprised of members from Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, and Rage Against the Machine, surfaced online. Today, the rumors were confirmed.

Named Prophets of Rage, the group officially announced their existence and line-up, as well as an upcoming show in Los Angeles (tonight!) via an email to fans. Made up of Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord, Cypress Hill’s B-Real, and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk, the six-man band wrote:

“Prophets Of Rage combines the sonic firepower of Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill. We can no longer stand on the sidelines of history. Dangerous times demand dangerous songs. It’s time to take the power back. It’s time to make America RAGE again.”

In an interview with KROQ, Morello referred to the band as “an elite task force of revolutionary musicians.” He also told Rolling Stone that the band already has an original song, “The Party Is Over”: “an absolutely from-scratch collaboration.”

The supercrew debuts tonight at Los Angeles’ Whiskey a Go-Go and will perform songs by all three groups, as well as new music. Proceeds from the show will benefit PATH, an organization that aims to end homelessness.
