Bobby Shmurda will have to wait an extra four months in jail before he can begin trial.
Originally scheduled for May 11, the Brooklyn rapper, born Ackquille Pollard, is now set to go to trial later this year, with a new date, September 12. The update was first reported by XXL on Monday (May 9). Although this marks the fourth postponement of Pollard’s trial, REVOLT confirmed with the Office Of Special Narcotics that the change this time was at the behest of his defense attorney.
According to Kati Cornell, the Director of Public Information at the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor in New York, the trial was pushed back at the request of Bobby’s defense attorney, Alex Spiro, who represents the rapper.
The “Hot N*gga” rapper was arrested in December 2014 at a Manhattan studio and hit with conspiracy, drug and gun charges. The Epic Records signee has failed to post bond and has been in jail since and a series of lawyers have represented him.
In an interview with REVOLT a few months ago, Bobby noted that a postponement in the trial wouldn’t be far from inevitable.
“I’ve been ready to go to trial and put in a 30.30 motion… and they’re still not ready for trial and now it’s on May 11th. After May, they’re probably going to push it back to August, September who knows,” he said. “I feel like what they’re doing right now is what they do to a lot of people when they don’t have no case on them… I was targeted because of my rap music, it’s crazy.”
The rapper is currently in Rockland County Corrections Division.
Check back with REVOLT later today for more on this case.
