UPDATE: Drake is pulling off nothing but firsts with Views. The OVO captain has finally scored his first No. 1 song in the country with “One Dance.” The single debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week, knocking down previous chart-topper, Desiigner’s “Panda.” In addition to “One Dance,” the entire Views album has hit the Hot 100, marking the most that any artist has charted on the tally in one week.
“After this no one a threat to me…”
Well, he did it. After years of hinting at the goal of selling a million in the first week, Drake accomplishes the feat, exploding straight to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with Views.
According to Billboard, Views earned 1.04 million equivalent units in the first week of its release, giving the rapper his sixth consecutive chart-topping LP. Jumping right above Beyonce’s Lemonade, which sold 321,000 units in its second week, the album enjoyed a platinum outing with 852,000 of which were traditional sales.
Views and its singles (“One Dance,” “Hotline Bling,” “Pop Style”) were streamed a record 245.1 million times, per the report, trumping the roughly 100 million total Justin Bieber pulled off with last year’s Purpose. The album is now officially the biggest release since Adele’s 25 steamrolled the charts last year with 2 million units sold.
Elsewhere on the Billboard 200 is Prince’s Purple Rain soundtrack at No. 3 with 75,000. The late singer’s greatest hits set, The Very Best of Prince also clings onto No. 4 with 70,000 units. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five is Rihanna with Anti pulling an additional 51,000 copies.
