Jay Z left fans dumbfounded last month with his truncated verse (or lack thereof) on Drake’s “Pop Style.”

Clearing the air, Drake sat with Zane Lowe for a special episode of OVOSound Radio tonight (April 28) and revealed the song was originally supposed to just feature Kanye West, but things changed after the G.O.O.D. Music captain pulled in Jay Z.

“Really I was just trying to get ‘Ye on it at first and [he] just sent it to me like that, like ‘Yo Jay kinda just did my first few lines for me and he was just here and that’s how we flexed it,’” he recalled. “It was cool because he was excited [and said], ‘Yo just put The Throne, it’ll be a crazy moment.’”

Instead of a “crazy moment,” the song left many confused. To that, Drake acknowledged those thoughts from fans, stating: “I mean of course people want to hear Jay Z rap, so hearing him do two lines might be frustrating to a certain audience.”

“I was just having a conversation with Kanye and that just landed on my lap,” he added.

After the song’s release, an updated version of the song was premiered on OVO Sound Radio featuring an added verse. This verse, sans Kanye and Jay Z appear on Views, which is now available on iTunes.

“I dealt with it accordingly. It didn’t exactly play out how I would have wanted to, as far as business or whatever goes, so I just figured it would be easier to go with my version. I’ve expressed my admiration and respect for Jay countless times so that’ll going to change, we just fall on opposite ends of the spectrum in the rap world.”

As far as his work with Kanye, the “Summer Sixteen” rapper confirmed the two were in talks for a collaborative project. It was last year when Kanye revealed the two were supposed to drop a joint album, called Wolves. “Maybe we’ll get that done,” Drizzy teased in his interview. ” I hope we get more music out.”

The OVO Sound leader also has plans of releasing new music before his upcoming tour with Future. “By the time I get to the tour, I’m going to have a whole arsenal of songs that don’t even have to do with VIEWS.”
