Mac Miller & Dave East, “Headaches & Migraines”

“I’m getting faded in an undisclosed location” is a line that Mac Miller chooses to open up this Cardo-produced banger with, but it very well describes my…er…someone’s recent trip to Cali. Anyhow, in light of this week’s 4/20 celebration, Mac and Dave East came together like Cheech and Chong to serve up “Headaches & Migraines” (another descriptor of my that trip). While the song, which is the first collab between Mac and East, is chilled-out and mellow, the wordplay from the stars veer into the introspective terrain. Between Mac recalling actual ‘headache and migraine’ events and the “horrible influences” responsible for them, along with East acknowledging the journey that has since led to getting “high with Esco now,” the rappers deliver a one of a kind audible treat. Felix Snow, “Lies” Feat. SZA

Felix Snow grabbed TDE collaborator SZA for a new electro-pop single entitled “Lies.” Snow and SZA’s complementary relationship developed such a captivating and enticing song. Seriously, I got so lost in the intertwined sound that I didn’t start paying attention to the lyrics until the 2nd 7th listen. Deep within the lyrics context lies a relatable experience in the new age of online dating.

SZA sings “I used to like you the way you were/ When you were nice to meet…/ Now you got hoes for days/ Where do I fit in/ Now you got everything/ Now you so over me.”

Sounds like someone is still trying to find love on Tinder…kidding. Besides that, this song truly showcases both artists’ multi-faceted abilities. SZA further enhances her genre-bending efforts, while Snow and David Singer-Vine (The Cataracs) set a solid mark in terms of increased brand awareness for the EFFESS Records label. As mentioned above, 4/20 has passed, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t continue to get lost in the clouds. Either by smoking a joint or listening to this song, get lost. — Erin Ashley Simon

Kaiydo, “Lottery”

“I just had a dream I won the lottery” after listening to Florida rapper Kaiydo’s latest track “Lottery.” Well… the effect of winning millions and millions of dollars doesn’t even compare, however, this song is a winner. With a bass-hitting instrumental and a catchy hook, this song provides that feel-good vibe that is essential for our music catalog heading into the summer time. It’s time to start making that money for summer, so you don’t “wake up dead broke.” — Erin Ashley Simon

Ro James, “Gas”

Rising singer and songwriter Ro James released his latest single “Gas” in anticipation for his debut studio album ELDORADO, which will be released on May 27th. “Gas” follows a list of songs from the forthcoming project, including “Permission,” and two other new tracks “Burn Slow” and “Already Knew That.” All of the songs seep sexiness and sensuality, which should be expected for the entire project. And if this songs resonates, fans will also be able to watch Ro perform live while joining Maxwell on the Summers’ Tour 2016. Be sure to pre-order the album today (April 22) – Erin Ashley Simon
