It’s been more than 10 years since the passing of game-changing producer/MC J Dilla, yet his music still lives strong.
Next week, Dilla’s family will release an album the beat-maker worked on for many years in the early 2000s, The Diary, with Momma Dilla aka Ms. Yancy planning to re-release Jay Love Japan as a special Mothers Day gift.
Announced before Dilla’s 2006 death, the posthumous LP features fellow S.V. co-founder Baatin, and Exile, with a standalone previously bootlegged track from California natives Blu and Miguel. Titled “Sun In My Face,” the first single is a soulful tune with Blu coating the production of everything from racisim, haters and coming from the bottom, while Miguel shines light on the mellifluous hook.
