King of the freestyles. It’s been a long time. Beast in the East. Type “Fabolous and Jadakiss” into either Google or Datpiff and these are just some of the titles to pop up, thanks to the mass flood of fan-made mixtapes over the years. But of course, following the announcement this week, the majority of these search results are Freddy Vs. Jason, the official title to Fab and Kiss’ upcoming mixtape.

“We was talking about doing a couple things, said Fab to Bootleg Kev earlier this week about a collaborative project starring the pair of New York Giants. “And one was to do a mixtape… I wanna do a mixtape, but we’re gonna go through iTunes too.”

Some call them unsung legends, while others refer to them as Young OG’s — this, in the sense of their ability to weather the storm of the past two decades through a Benjamin Buttons-style flair. But respectively and collectively though, Fabolous and Jadakiss — signature auteurs behind the sharp-tongued, whiplash-triggered punchlines that usually elicits this Smokey reaction — are pound for pound rap champs that certainly make up the hallowed list of best ever emcees.

Kiss, well over 20 years of seasoned vet experience with collaborations with everybody except Mr. Shakur. Loso, not far behind with over 15 years to his name and a couple Grammy nominations. Having been cut from the cloth of rap’s glorious ’90s era, the pair have rode a rare wave that has transcended far enough to allow them the reward of calling DMX, Nas, Jay Z, Eminem, Kanye West, Drake and J. Cole as peers at different points in the same career. This, beyond a shadow of a doubt is a measure of their respective greatness.
