“I didn’t really plan on this happening, it just happened spontaneously,” says Hopsin regarding the crumbling of his now former label, Funk Volume.
Last week, the rapper formally spoke on the departure from the label in the six-minute track “ILL Mind of Hopsin 8.” The song finds the California rapper speaking on the incident that led to his split with label co-founder Damien Ritter, who he refers to as “a new age Jerry Heller.” Using the raucous instrumental as his venting source, the ill emcee laid everything from out of Funk Volume closet for all to see.
Days after its release, a more levelheaded Hopsin sat with REVOLT to speak on the situation as well as express his newfound focus on bettering the path that lies ahead of him.
“All I wanted was new management and Damien was not cool with that and started disrespecting me,” he recalled. “He’s done and I’m good.”
“I got the juice,” he adds, before quickly clarifying, “Not only do I have the juice, I am the juice.”
