Snoop Dogg, “I’m From Long Beach”

There’s a few things we know about Snoop Dogg. He’s a herbal activist, his hair is always laid and luxurious, he’s everyone’s favorite Uncle, and his hometown is Long Beach, CA. The Doggfather, who releases his Pharrell-produced album Bush in May, takes it back to his 213 roots for the hometown anthem “I’m From Long Beach.”

“Long Beach, Eastside, yessir, we cripped out,” he raps, while a male vocalist sings the hook: “If you want to find me, come to Long Beach / 213 is where I be.”

The song follows up his Scoop DeVille-produced “Back Up” off LBC Movement’s Beach City mixtape.

BJ The Chicago Kid’s Version Of, “Before I Let You Go”

With hip-hop and R&B’s genre-crossing landscape continuing to yield music of the millennium, it’s always nice to hear artists rework classic hits and do it justice. Motown recording artist BJ The Chicago Kid pays homage to the ‘90s by covering Blackstreet’s fan-favorite track “Before I Let You Go.”

With the help of an acoustic guitar, BJ takes all the ‘80s and ‘90s babies back to their first crush or school dance with a stripped-down rendition of the love ballad. And let’s just say, Teddy Riley and Chauncey would be proud.

Mila J, “Real Love”

Mila J has had quite the year. After releasing her mixtape The Waiting Game in November, the singer goes in search of a “Real Love.” Reworked over J. Cole’s “No Role Modelz,” the R&B siren samples Mary J. Blige’s ‘90s classic song of the same name, for her take on the heartfelt track.

Mila J’s debut album is due to release next year, with the Timbaland produced effort “Get No Betta” dropping Christmas Day off the mega producer’s mixtape King Stays King.
