Earlier this week, Kanye West phoned in to Big Boy out in LA to talk about a number of topics but none struck the cord like the update he gave on his album.

Yeezy admitted he was working slow but eased the concern of fans when he called the project a “sonic painting.”

Well, great minds think…similar.

Just on Thursday, Puff Daddy returned to the music scene with his surprise MMM drop, a gift to fans for his birthday. The album has received overwhelmingly good word-of-mouth buzz on social media and early reviews have been positive, praising the sound and the mixture of upstarts and veteran voices. The music mogul himself boasted about the project, which he called a prequel to his next—and final—album, No Way Out II.

In his own interview on Hot 97 (well ahead of Kanye’s, by the way), PD called MMM “real music” and warned producers to “wake up” and pay attention to the mixing process in order to create “a sonic motion picture.”

“Music speaks for itself,” he said, emphatically. “Let’ just play some music.”
