Drake gave Lil Herb AKA G Herbo his first major cosign back in 2013 when the Toronto superstar sent Herb cohort Lil Bibby the following direct tweet: “Streets need that TAPE! I’m waiting on it, you and Herb the future.”
Now, Footaction is giving the Chi-town lyricist yet another big-time nod by highlighting him in their “Own It” campaign, a five-part video series, which features a handful of the most admired artists in hip-hop music today.
In the clip—the third installment following on-camera turns with Future and Casey Veggies—19-year-old Lil Herb describes his style game as “free-flowing” and “chill swag.” “That’s how I feel I own my style, ‘cause I’m just doing me, really just being myself,” he explained.
And when asked what his favorite footgear is, “Timbs,” he asserted. “I don’t always have to go grab $800 shoes,” he added, saying he likes to keep things “simple.”
Despite being one of a slew of Chicago-bred artists to hit the rap scene lately (Chance the Rapper, Tink, King Louie, Lil Durk and Bibby), since dropping his well-received 2013 debut mixtape, Welcome to Fazoland, followed by 2014’s The Pistol Project, MC Herbo has been heavy on the rap radar.
And with the recent release of his highly-anticipated debut album, Ballin’ Like I’m Kobe (September 29 via Cinematic Music Group), Herb has only further cemented his place in music.
