Kendrick Lamar has used his album, To Pimp A Butterfly, to make plenty of statements about culture and the black experience.
With his latest video, “These Walls,” the Compton native continues his narrative.
Premiering on vevo on Wednesday (October 28), the rapper gives a glimpse of life between the walks, from the cruel to the sublime.
Directed by Collin Tilley, the visual—billed as a Dark Comedy—follows K.Dot and company (Terry Crews, included) planning a jack move. Before the heist, Kendrick and Crews engaged in a talent show competition where they dance and then the story cuts to a participant recalling the party and the robbery. “You get that feeling sometimes,” he explained in an anecdote that ended with Kendrick hollering at his lady.
The eight-minute clip transforms from a celebration to a story about retaliation and get back.
