LOS ANGELES, CA—What’s it like to be a guitar hero? We imagine Lenny Kravitz has a good idea. Kravitz is the commercial spokesman for the new edition of Guitar Hero Live.

Kravitz is the commercial spokesman for the new edition of the game, dubbed Guitar Hero Live. REVOLT was at the launch event for the game and two of the bands that took the stage explained what it meant for them to be in such great company of other rock stars like Lenny.

Rival sons guitarist, Scott Holiday, said, “I love Lenny Kravitz! We’ve done a bunch of shows this year with him. He is firing all cylinders, his guitar player is a great friend and a great guitarist and he’s a good spokesperson.”

Scott also detailed a new record that his band is working on: “We just finished a record and head on tour in a couple of weeks. The sessions with (record producer) Dave Cobb went fantastic. They went quick, fast and furious. We actually wrote the records on the spot. We came in with material and didn’t play it until we got into the studio and luckily finished the record just in time.”

In addition to Rival Sons, alternative rock band Grizfolk graced the Honda Stage to help fans celebrate the new Guitar Hero and take part in a live recording of their set, which will be featured in the game. Grizfolk recently unveiled their track “troublemaker” and the band is on the verge of releasing their debut full length. The band explained to REVOLT how the project is coming along: “It’s been a lot of work because we’ve been on the road, making the record in hotel rooms and everywhere we possibly could. Similarly to the EP, we’re trying to paint a landscape with our songs and never lose that element.”

Weezer was the closing act of the night. Guitar Hero Live has been more than five years in the making and the game promises to break genre barriers for players and bring a new generation the experience of feeling like a rock star. If you do buy the game, just knowing Lenny Kravitz does the same with his free time should leave you feeling pretty cool.
