As part of Warp’s collaboration with the UK channel C4’s Random Acts, Hudson Mohawke premieres a video for the production of “System,” taken from his recent record Lantern. Dedicated to the arts and designed to offer a platform in which filmmakers and artists are encouraged to provoke thought and debate behind their work. Explaining the inspiration behind the HudMo visual, one of the video director’s, Nic Hamilton, told Noisey, “System is about big cities and screens, manic focused euphoria and cinematic panoramas. It is the experience of NYC from a helicopter at dawn with a 4G connection.”

Essentially, in non-technical verbiage, the video features a bird’s eye shot and panoramic view of the city in the closest form you’ll get besides possibly being in a helicopter. The video’s other director Dominic Flannigan added: “When considering an associated film, I thought of classic rave visuals and cg stock art of the late ’90s, where the grid of the city would be superimposed with circuit boards and processors. Here we updated it for 2015, commissioning our own 4K helicopter shoot over Manhattan, which Nic Hamilton treated, placing [it] in a CG environment that evokes Philip Glass’ ‘1000 Airplanes On The Roof.’”
