For her umpteenth magazine cover this year, Rihanna heralds a new era for UK-based cornerstone publication NME.
The “FourFiveSeconds” songstress is the first cover star for the “brilliant new free weekly magazine” since its revamp, and while it doesn’t arrive until tomorrow, several pull quotes from their conversation have hit the net, including a much-needed update on the oft-delayed eighth studio album, R8.
Thanks to several false starts initiated by the release of records like “FourFiveSeconds,” “American Oxygen,” and “Bitch Better Have My Money,” R8 was expected to drop out of the sky several times this year. But according to the Pop star, the delay is simply due to one reason: “It’s not done.”
“To me it’s never done until it’s done, until the final moment,” the singer told NME.
Earlier this year, Kanye West announced that his role as executive producer role on the project and as Rihanna puts it, their hectic work schedule is also a factor in the hold up. “We just have to get back in the studio together,” she said. “His schedule and mine are totally opposite right now, but I think this month we’ll be back in the studio.”
Aware of the fervid attention surrounding the now Detox-like project, RiRi promised the wait will be worth it in the long run. “No matter what I post online, within three comments there’s somebody saying, ‘Where is ‘R8’?’ I could post anything. Nothing else matters,” she said. “They don’t care about anything but that. But it makes me excited, because I can’t wait to give them something great.”
