With Miley Cyrus tapped to host MTV’s Video Music Awards this year, we can be sure to get an entertaining show.
We recently found out today (August 25) that Pharrell, Demi Lavato, Tori Kelly, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Twenty One Pilots with A$AP Rocky would be performers.
It’s been known that The Weeknd is performing and we learned Kanye West receive The Video Vanguard Award—the coveted prize Beyonce walked away with last year. Could this be Taylor Swift’s moment to finally get revenge? Maybe we’ll just leave the past in the past, although would Beck be so upset if SOMEONE finally got Kanye back?
With all the hype and anticipation we’ve created a list of the five things we think will happen at this year’s VMAs:
Beyoncé Will Announce And Perform A New Single
Hear us out. Bey doesn’t show up to every award show, so at this point, echoing Jay Z’s sentiments, her presence is charity. Her self-titled album came out just shy of two years ago and the only new music we’ve heard from her are a couple of fun tracks like “7/11” and the Nicki Minaj collab “Feelin’ Myself.” Let’s not forget the VMAs are the exact place she revealed her pregnancy to the world in 2011, so the thought of new music isn’t far fetched. Plus, it’s about time for some new Queen King B. Maybe that joint album with Jay will see the light of day? Hmm.
The Weeknd Will Bring Out Lana Del Ray For A “Prisoner” Performance
2015 has been the year of one long and amazing Weeknd. After his well-placed contributions to the “Fifty Shades of Grey”soundtrack and a chart-topping feature on Ariana Grande’s “Love Me Harder” single, Abel Tesfaye has managed to chart three Top 5 tracks of his own, including the groovy “Can’t Feel My Face,” which topped the Hot 100 chart this month. The Weeknd performed his Lana-assisted track at Billboard’s Hot 100 Fest this past, er ah, weekend without the chanteuse and it went over really well. We’re assuming he’ll one up himself and just ask her to join him on stage the second time ’round. Plus, it’s nice inta-label politics for Abel to play nice with LDR.
Kanye Will Drop New Music…Or An Entire Album
Kanye is a man of many (many, many, many, many) surprises. With only 48 hours of prep time he managed to rock the FYF Fest on Sunday night and delivered Rihanna and Travis Scott to the stage stage, so imagine what he will do with five days?! He’s for sure performing at the VMA’s and receiving one of the night’s top honors. He broke the awkward ice in 2010 (the year after he embarrassed Taylor Swift) by showcasing his hit “Runaway”for the first time , now just imagine what he will do with all the space and opportunity he’s being given this year!? And, it’s about time, since our last slice of music from him was wintertime.
Miley Cyrus Will Redeem Robin Thicke
Lets face it, Robin Thicke has had a pretty tough year. From losing the Blurred Lines fight in court against Marvin Gaye’s family to losing his wife; the last 12 months have been crucial. His seventh studio album, Paula, only sold 24K copies in the first week in the U.S. and exactly 530 copies in the U.K. Ouch. Enter Miley. We think Cyrus is going to have him come out during her performance and allow him to sing his new track “Back Together.” Get it? Because, well, you know.
Taylor Swift Will Invite Nicki Minaj On Stage When She Wins One Of Her (Many Awards)
Taylor Swift has already brought out everyone and their mothers during her 1989 World Tour so if she does perform at the VMAs there is literally no one left to surprise us with. From Fetty Wap to Alanis Morissette, she’s covered it all. We think America’s sweetheart is going to make good on her Twitter statement to Nicki Mina by inviting the Barb on any stage she is ever on. You remember that brief social media misunderstanding T.Swift had with Nicki a few weeks ago? About the VMAs being biased in who they choose to award based on body type and skin color? Well, in order for Taylor to stay in the good graces of EVERYONE, she needs to make this chess move to be sure the Barbs don’t still hate her. Now, the fun will be in seeing exactly how she’ll put that one off.
We’ll all just have to watch and see what really goes down but one thing is 100 percent for sure, Sunday will be an interesting evening.
