Jamie Foxx’s Netflix series “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” will not be returning to the streaming platform for a second season, Deadline reports.

The father-daughter comedy, which was executive produced by Foxx and his daughter Corinne, lasted eight episodes. It debuted on April 14 and chronicled the relationship between a single dad trying to figure out fatherhood on the fly when his strong-minded teen daughter moves in with him. It starred Kyla-Drew as Foxx’s daughter Sasha and David Alan Grier as Foxx’s father. Porscha Coleman portrayed the Oscar winner’s sister and Jonathan Kite acted as his best friend Johnny.

According to Deadline, Foxx was involved in the decision to end the show. Upon its release, “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” received unfavorable reviews. Variety called the series “a regurgitation of sitcom tropes past,” and The Hollywood Reporter stated that the show felt like “The Jamie Foxx Show 2.” “It doesn’t help that the series looks about as cheap and sparse as a WB sitcom, with conspicuous product placement clogging up the screen,” THR wrote. The critic’s consensus on rottentomatoes.com was “Jamie Foxx is funny – sadly, ‘Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!’ is not.”

In an interview with MTV News, Foxx discussed the underlying message of the show. “What we hope to get out of this is the absolute fear inside of all dad’s hearts that they’re going to blow it, that they’re going mess it up for their kid,” he said. “That’s what we all live under. And that’s why I tell a lot of fathers who maybe the relationship with the mom didn’t go well or whatever it is… and so sometimes we retreat and we say that’s the moms responsibility because she’s the nurturer. I hope that we’ll be able to show that fathers have to get beyond that, work harder. Yeah, your kids going to be mad at you and sometimes you may want to break and run but if you get past that line of anger there’s a lot of love there for you to have.”
