Several people were arrested over the weekend as they protested against the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor. As reported by TMZ, a few demonstrators marching near the Kentucky Derby were taken into custody over minor infractions related to protesting.

A year after the first Taylor protest at the Derby, those fighting for her justice returned to the annual race, starting their march by the entrance of Churchill Downs and ending with at La Chasse restaurant where they were confronted by a man who pulled out a gun and focused it on the group.

Demonstrators attempted to diffuse the situation and keep them away, but officers ended up responding to the scene, and arrests were made.

Though charges weren’t initially disclosed, TMZ later revealed that five protesters were booked following the demonstration. Their charges include disregarding an officer’s signals for directing traffic/fleeing, evading police and even hitchhiking, disorderly conduct, failure to disperse and possession of an open alcoholic beverage/possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Authorities also believe that one of the demonstrators was armed at the time of the incident.

While protesters decided to call for Taylor’s justice, a horse named after the late EMT took home the award during the Kentucky race. As REVOLT previously reported, the horse of Sam Aguiar — attorney of Taylor — won the Kentucky Derby Week on Thursday (April 28) at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

Since Taylor was fatally shot in her apartment by officers using a search warrant, protests developed in hopes to get her justice. Detective Brett Hankison was indicted last year on three counts of wanton endangerment for allegedly firing blindly through a door and window. No involved officers in the Taylor case have been charged for her murder.
