Wanda Cooper-Jones and Marcus Arbery, the parents of Ahmaud Arbery, said their son can now rest in peace after the three white men who murdered him were convicted for their crimes.

On Wednesday (Nov. 24), Arbery’s mom and dad thanked the crowd outside the courthouse for their support and for fighting toward justice for their slain son. “I just want to say thank you guys,” Cooper-Jones said. “It’s been a long fight. It’s been a hard fight, but God is good. … I never thought this day would come, but God is good, and I just want to tell everybody thank you, thank you for those who marched, those who prayed.”

“I want to give all glory to God because that’s who made all this possible,” Arbery’s father added. “…It’s not one side did this. God put us all together to make this happen.”

As REVOLT previously reported, on Wednesday, Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan were convicted for the death of Arbery. Last February, the three men hunted and murdered the 25-year-old as he jogged through a Georgia neighborhood.

Gregory was found guilty on four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Travis was convicted of one count of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of false imprisonment and one count of criminal attempt to commit a felony. Bryan was found guilty of three counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of false imprisonment and one count of criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump applauded the guilty verdict and said it “indicates progress,” but America still has a long way to go to fix “the deep cracks, flaws and biases in our systems.”
