The Columbus, Ohio cop who was involved in the shooting of Andre Hill took 10 minutes to provide any kind of assistance after he fatally shot him.

According to a report TMZ published on Saturday (Jan. 2), footage of the incident recorded by the police officer’s body cam proves that officer Adam Coy did not administer first aid to Hill until 10 minutes after the shooting occurred. In the video, we can see Hill on the ground inside an open garage as police officers hover over him. They managed to place handcuffs on Hill while he was on the ground, yet they took 10 minutes to begin resuscitating him.

The 47-year-old was shot and killed by police after Coy claimed he saw Hill go into an open garage. When he asked Hill to come out, Coy didn’t ask for Hill to come out with his hands up. When Hill raised his hand with a cell phone in it, Coy screamed that Hill was armed with a gun in the other hand and fired his weapon. Hill was not armed at all.

The new footage that TMZ posted only contains 3:10 of the 10 minutes before any of the officers gave Hill any first-aid. Coy, a 19-year veteran on the force, and his observing officer reportedly turned their cameras on after the shooting. However, thanks to a function in their body cams that automatically records the minute before they are turned on, the entire shooting was recorded with no sound.

A lawyer for the Hill family, Ben Crump, asserts that Hill’s death is “indefensible.” He also states that “police mentality to shoot first and ask questions later is incontrovertible evidence that Black lives don’t matter with too many law enforcement officers.”

Officer Coy was fired for two department violations: failing to turn on his body cam, and failing to give first aid to a shooting victim. However, there’s still no word on whether or not Coy will be charged.
