Today (Aug. 6) is the 55th anniversary of the signing of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. The passing of the federal law officially made it illegal for racial discrimination in voting. However, over five decades later, we still have work to do.

That’s why REVOLT is proud to announce that we’ve partnered with Sankofa.org and March for our Lives to present INTO ACTION, a livestream event that celebrates the 55-year-old law and advocates for more change to continue.

INTO ACTION is a four-day celebration that will take place on August 6, 7, 12, and 18. Today, it will be broadcasted from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, Milwaukee, Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and other locations across the United States. The event kicks off at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

There, a number of prominent speakers will speak out about Black political power, bring awareness to voter suppression and voting rights, and celebrate those still fighting for change today for the Black community.

A slew of guests include John Legend, Usher, Stacey Abrams, Common, Billy Porter, Kendrick Sampson, Chuck D, Emma Gonzalez, Christian McBride, The Wide Awakes featuring the Blacksmiths, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Mumu Fresh, and so many more. INTO ACTION has an aim to encourage Black people to unite, reclaim their power, assert their rights, and continue to speak out about social justice for a better tomorrow.

Keeping up with the social justice front, REVOLT is also airing a brand new episode of “REVOLT BLACK NEWS” tonight titled “Unlevel Playing Fields.” On the show, host Eboni K. Williams will welcome former NBA athlete Baron Davis for a discussion on the National Basketball League’s ownership inequity. Metta World Peace will also speak about his views on kneeling as a form of protest. Moreover, retired NFL quarterback Doug Williams will have a discussion on Black high school recruits committing to HBCUs, and its affect on college athletics and the sports industry as a whole.
