An independent autopsy has revealed that 18-year-old Andres Guardado was shot in the back five times, according to CNN.

The teen also suffered a graze abrasion to his left forearm and did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system. Guardado was fatally shot on June 18 by a Los Angeles County deputy as he worked as a security guard at a local body shop in Gardena. Authorities claim he flashed a gun before he looked at them and ran, a claim the victim’s family disputes.

“Andres was a good boy, he was our son and he had so much life ahead of him,” his parents said in a statement. “Our son did not deserve to die this way. We understand that there is still a long way to go, but we are going to continue to keep fighting for justice for Andres. We want to ensure that other families do not have to suffer as we have. We ask that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department release their security hold on the autopsy report and all other evidence they have. We want answers.”

On Wednesday (July 8), Commander Chris Marks said they needed to hold out on releasing the official autopsy because they did not want the investigation to be tainted.

“We do understand the desire of the Guardado family to have answers sooner rather than later,” Marks said. “We also accept and understand our obligation to be transparent. Simultaneously, we are conducting a homicide investigation.”

He continued, “All officer-involved shootings that result in a death are just in fact that – a homicide investigation. We take our obligation to gather all facts and protect the integrity of a homicide investigation very seriously.”

He also said that two officers, whose names are still unknown, were involved in the shooting. The officer who fired six shots has not been interviewed by investigators yet. The other officer, who did not fire his weapon, has been interviewed by authorities. Both cops are still employed with the department.
