Employees at a Georgia Jimmy John’s restaurant were terminated for their involvement in reenacting a mock lynching. A video of the ordeal was filmed on Snapchat. In the clip, the employees created a noose out of the bread dough. One of the employees placed the noose around his neck while the other employee held it up in a motion to hang him. Another employee captured the footage and was heard laughing. The clip also featured a “Happy 4th of July” Snapchat filter near the bottom of it.
Twitter user @urwildlol tweeted the video on Sunday (July 5) and captioned it, “I am disgusted. This is in a Jimmy John’s. They made a noose with dough.. please retweet and share to get them fired.”
Jimmy John’s has since released a statement condemning the act. “The actions seen in the video are absolutely unacceptable and do not represent the Jimmy John’s brand or local franchise ownership team,” the statement read. “As soon as we were alerted to the video, we notified our franchisee, who quickly investigated and terminated all employees involved. The franchisee is also meeting with their team to conduct training to help prevent anything like this from ever happening again.”
Just last week, two employees were fired from an Ohio Little Caesars for placing the pepperonis in the shape of a swastika on a customer’s pizza.
A Little Caesars spokeswoman released a statement regarding the incident. “We have zero tolerance for racism and discrimination in any form, and these franchise store employees were immediately terminated,” the statement read. “We’re deeply disappointed that this happened, as this conduct is completely against our values. We have also reached out to the customer to discuss this personally with him.”
