Today (June 12), marks the 30th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s self-titled debut album. While the Lambs, Carey’s fans, have taken to social media to commemorate the album’s success, the “We Belong Together” songstress wants them to use their platforms to fight for equality.

“Thank you lambily, for all the celebratory messages for today’s #MC30 anniversary!” she wrote over the image of her album’s cover art. “I had planned to share some surprises and rarities with you, but prefer to postpone them to a later date.”

She continued, “As we continue to fight for equality and justice within our broken systems, I thank you for using your platforms to educate, inform and invoke change. Together let’s bring on a change. Love, Mariah.”

Carey has used her platform to shed light on the recent killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. On May 27, she tweeted a meme with some of the last words Floyd yelled out as he was being suffocated to death by former police officer Derek Chauvin and urged her fans to “Say his name.”

She also shared a video snippet of herself singing her single “There’s Got to Be a Way” on Twitter. “I wrote this song for my first album,” she tweeted. “Still looking for answers today. We have to make a change. We can’t be silent. #BlackLivesMatter. Text ‘FLOYD’ to 55156 to demand #JusticeForFloyd.”

Since then, the Butterfly singer has retweeted the official GoFundMe for Taylor’s family after she was shot at least eight times as Louisville police officers entered her home under a no-knock warrant. None of the officers have been arrested or charged for her death.

On June 6, she posted a snippet of “Languishing (the Interlude)” and tweeted, “As the Floyd family & the world send George home, may we stay strong in the long struggle for justice so that we can all finally, fully breathe. I wrote this song years ago & can’t believe how applicable it is in this moment. #BlackLivesMatter #ICantBreathe #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd.”
