Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Verzuz series could see its first group battle. Shortly after this weekend’s Nelly vs. Ludacris event, the Instagram Live series co-founders chopped it up about the next potential battle for this coming weekend. Among the hypothetical artists were Atlanta R&B groups 112 and Jagged Edge, first suggested by Jermaine Dupri.
“[Jermaine Dupri,] keep that same energy!” Swizz said during the Live. “Jagged Edge vs. 112. Can you make that happen, JD? Because a lot of people say what they want to see, but can you pick up the phone and make that happen?”
Dupri signed Jagged Edge to his So So Def record label in the mid-’90s. The group spawned hits like “Let’s Get Married,” “Promise” and “Where The Party At.”
R&B quartet 112, however, released classics like “Only You,” “Cupid” and “Peaches & Cream” and was represented by Bad Boy Records in the 90’s, before moving on to Def Jam in the early 2000’s. They also won the award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 1997 Grammys for their feature in Diddy and Faith Evans’ collaboration, “I’ll Be Missing You.”
“I would love to see Jagged Edge vs. 112. Get them on the phone, JD. Let’s go,” Swizz continued.
“Come on now, don’t play no games,” added Timbo.
Since the series’ beginning, the likes of Eminem, Snoop Dogg, JAY-Z, Dr. Dre, Diddy, Busta Rhymes and Mary J. Blige have been tossed into the hypothetical ring. Most recently, Verzuz has seen virtual showdowns between Ludacris and Nelly; Erykah Badu and Jill Scott; and Teddy Riley and Babyface.
Neither Swizz nor Timbo have announced an official battle for this upcoming weekend, but plenty of fans have their fingers crossed for 112 vs. Jagged Edge. See some Twitter reactions to a possible Verzuz battle between the two mega-groups below.
