Associated Press declared Joe Biden the winner in Michigan on Wednesday (Nov. 4) and some voters think it was the Democratic candidate’s Eminem-nodding ad that pushed him over the edge. The Biden campaign shared their “One Opportunity” ad earlier this week, which features Em’s 2002 and Oscar-awarded hit, “Lose Yourself.”
“We have one shot. One opportunity. One moment,” Biden wrote of the ad. “Don’t miss the chance — vote.”
Eminem’s lending of the song — and his endorsement of Biden — was a big deal, seeing as the Detroit native has never allowed his music to be played in a political ad before. Em is famously strict with his licensing and successfully sued a political party in New Zealand for using a knockoff version of “Lose Yourself” back in 2017.
Days later — and with no presidential victor — voters are attributing Em’s song in the 45-second ad to clenching the win for Biden in the rapper’s home state.
“Let’s be honest. Eminem is the real reason Biden won Michigan,” one person tweeted.
“I’d like to think Eminem allowing the Biden campaign to use ‘Lose Yourself’ led to this,” wrote another.
As of Friday morning 9 am EST (Nov. 6), the voter margins in remaining battleground states North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania have continued to close.
Biden pulled ahead slightly in Pennsylvania and Georgia overnight, with a 0.1 percent lead in his home state and a difference of just over 1,000 votes in Georgia. The Democrat still holds about a 1 percent advantage in Nevada, while Trump is reporting a 2 percent lead in North Carolina.
