It looks like the city of Chicago is honoring Gunna in a major way. The 26-year-old rapper will have his own day, “Gunna Day,” in Chi-Town.
“On Sat. Aug. 3, 2019, Chicago Illinois South Shore International College Preparatory High School would like to proclaim today Gunna Day!” the letter states. “In tribute to your first ballot hall of fame music career on and off the stage and your wonderful work providing billions of youth around the world to have the audacity to hope against all odds.”
Throughout his career, Gunna has ensured that those coming up behind him are well taken care of. During an interview last month, Lil Baby explained how much of an influence Gunna has had on his career. The “Close Friends” spitter reflected on a time where Gunna would write his rhymes to help him practice. Based on this kind gesture, Lil Baby was able to establish his own flow.
“[Gunna] was already rapping so I kicked it with him and started f–king with him,” Lil Baby began. “Then I started rapping, and he actually started to helping me rap. I done paid Gunna to write my songs. I never put the songs out but like when I first started rapping I used to pay him like $100 like ‘I’ma give you a $100 write something for me so I can try to learn to go in and record it.’ I ain’t never recorded the songs and put them out but that’s how I used to practice and try to get it right because I just started rapping out of nowhere.”
More recently, Gunna dropped his visual for “Baby Birkin,” which features model and actress, Jordyn Woods. Shortly after the video’s release, Gunna announced that he would give away a Birkin bag to a lucky fan.
Congrats to Gunna on receiving his own day.
