Last night (Aug. 20), Tee Grizzley was the target of a drive-by shooting in Detroit, which left his manager dead.

According to TMZ, law enforcement sources reported that a gunman opened fire on Grizzley’s Cadillac Escalade. Grizzley’s manager, Jobina Brown, who is also the rapper’s aunt, was sitting in the back seat. As Grizzley was getting out of the passenger seat, the shooter approached on foot and pulled the trigger hitting Brown in her left side. Sources reported that three to four shots were fired. Following the shooting, Brown was rushed to the hospital where she died from her wounds. Brown was 41 years old.

Back in June, the “More Than Friends” rapper released his 14-track LP, Scriptures, which featured A Boogie wit da Hoodie. While working on the album, Grizzley learned a lot from working with Timbaland. The 25-year-old spitter recalled the time he asked Timbaland for a beat and the notable producer offered to work on his entire project instead.

“I was in the studio with Kanye West, we were down there in Miami or whatever,” he began. “I pull up—Timbaland in there. I’m like, ‘Oh s–t this n—a Timbaland in this b—h, you feel me?’ Timbaland noticed who I was, and was like, ‘You hard, I f–k with you.’ Now, I’m trying to get a beat from him, you feel me? ‘Timb, I look up to you bro, you one of the coldest, top 3 producers.’ He was like, ‘S–t let’s work.’ I’m like, ‘S–t, let me get a beat.’ He’s like, ‘Nah, I’ll do your whole album.’”

Moving forward, Grizzley knows the importance of staying authentic to his craft. While speaking to SPIN, Grizzley encouraged his fans to pursue what makes them happy. “But don’t try to mimic nobody else, it’s already everybody out there. So be you. To people that don’t rap, ain’t even thinking about rapping, find something — lot of people say ‘find something you like to do.’ Find something you can make money off of,” he said.
