As the old saying goes: “You live and you learn.”

In a video clip uploaded to Instagram TV yesterday (July 31), Nicki Minaj admits to cheating on her first love with her boyfriend Kenneth Petty. After a fan asked about the relationship timeline, the New York spitter recalled dating Petty while she was in another relationship. Minaj tells a hilarious story of spending time with her then-boyfriend when Petty called her house. The two men allegedly began arguing over Minaj.

Before wrapping up her story, Minaj explained that their lives took a completely different turn, which caused separation for her and Petty. The 36-year-old rapper added, “He did some stuff that he shouldn’t have did.” This might be in reference to Petty’s prison sentence. In 1995, Petty was convicted of first-degree rape and faced a four-year sentence. In addition to that, he spent time behind bars from 2006 to 2013 for a manslaughter conviction.

Despite the opinion of some naysayers, Minaj is the happiest she’s ever been. Recently, we reported that Minaj and Petty obtained their marriage license in Los Angeles. Sources spotted the couple taking a trip to Bev Hills Courthouse. Witnesses state that they saw the “Megatron” rapper at the marriage license bureau window where she received the paperwork needed to tie the knot.

Last week, Chance The Rapper released his debut album, The Big Day, which features a guest appearance from Minaj. On the track “Zanies and Fools,” Minaj raps about walking down the aisle and starting a family.

“I bodied everybody and got known for my body/My n—a home now, he the Clyde to my Bonnie/’Bout to walk down the aisle and be a mommy/Ooh, I remember when I cried like, ‘Why me?’/Now I wouldn’t exchange my life for Armani,” she spits.
