August Alsina is getting candid regarding his health.
Yesterday (July 8), Alsina provided an explanation as to why he canceled his scheduled set at the 2019 Essence Festival. The 26-year-old artist said to his Instagram followers that he woke up and temporarily lost the ability to walk.
“So here’s the stitch,” Alsina said. “I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk. Couldn’t feel my legs. My doctor ended up admitting me to the hospital to do a bunch of tests and he said that I have some nerve damage going on throughout my whole body that I have to undergo a recovery process for. I don’t know it’s like my immunity system just went on vacation. So just waiting on it to come on back so we can get together and make it do what it do man.”
In his caption, he expresses sympathy for fans missing out on the chance to see him perform. He iterates that he takes his career seriously.
“I take my career & your time very seriously & the fact that you guys show up for me, endlessly. Means the world! I’m man down right now,” he says in the caption.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Alsina has had to address his health concerns. Back in 2017, the “I Love It” singer told Jada Pinkett-Smith that his liver disease plays a major part with him not feeling like himself.
“I have a liver disease where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself,” Alsina said. “The reality of it is, I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a f–king cancer patient, ’cause I’m not.”
