In addition to being a man of his community, Nipsey Hussle was also deeply inspired by the art of collaboration. Prior to his tragic murder back in March, the Los Angeles native had plans to drop a joint record with Meek Mill.

In the aftermath of the hip hop community suffering the devastating loss of such an inspiring and genuine fixture, YG revealed that he and Nip also had a collaborative project in the works. Most recently, Zaytoven shared that he also was in the beginning stages of putting out a project with the Victory Lap rhymer as well.

During an interview with Sole Collector for their “Full Size Run” series, the Atlanta producer chopped it up about the sneaker culture in his city, as well as talked about recording with Kanye West, going shopping with Gucci Mane and brainstorming with the late Neighborhood Nip.

During the conversation, Zay revealed that him and Nipsey were in talks to drop a joint project months before the latter was gunned down outside of his Marathon clothing store on March 31.

“Me and Nipsey was talking about doing a full project together—not even talkin’, not even sayin’ nothing to nobody, just doing the music,” Zaytoven shared. “So we were doing this mentoring program together. It was me, Nipsey, Rick Ross, and Organized Noize. So it was like a competition. Me and Nipsey had an artist and then Rick Ross and Organized Noize had an artist to mentor.”

In addition to their mentoring work together, the pair also was tapped to collaborate with emerging West Coast artist UTK on the track “Hierarchy.” After joining forces on the collaborative assist for the up-and-comer, Zaytoven and Nipsey agreed their work together shouldn’t end there.

“Me and Nipsey was talkin’ about, ‘We got to do some music together. Let’s just do it, don’t tell anybody, just knock it out,’” Zaytoven recalled. “I can’t believe we missed that opportunity […] I felt like I been knowin’ Nipsey forever. And I was only around him for [that time].”
