But no worries, we’ll help smooth out the process with “Now N’ Laters,” a column that highlights the hottest new releases of the week and the songs you’ll want to listen to now — and later.

As spring gradually winds down and we gear up for summer, a number of artists have dropped new projects to listen to. This week’s roundup includes projects from one of the most acclaimed artists to come out of the DMV in recent memory, a promising star out of Memphis, and one of Atlanta’s latest exports. More than two years after the release of his major label debut album, At What Cost, GoldLink looks to avoid the sophomore jinx with his new offering called Disapora. After earning a bonafide hit with his Drake-assisted single “Look Alive” and unleashing a pair of mixtapes in 2018, BlocBoy JB doubles back with I Am Me, his first full-length release of the year. And last but not least, Lil Keed looks to build on the success of his Keed Talk to Em project with Long Live Mexico, which he titled in honor of a slain close friend.

Goldlink: Diaspora

“Joke Ting”

“We don’t look for trouble, we just have fun,” Ari PenSmith professes on this introductory cut from GoldLink’s latest body of work, which finds the star styling over production by P2J and PenSmith, himself. A feel-good offering, this breezy selection is summer-ready and it effectively sets the vibe for the rest of the proceedings.

“Cokewhite”

Millionaire drug dealer raps get spat atop hollow kicks and snares, as a pair of hustlers out of the DMV convene on this meeting of the minds. Produced by Fwdslxsh, MD$, Kurtis McKenzie, P2J & Sean Momberger — and featuring a verse from Pusha T — this unlikely collaboration serves as one of the high points of GoldLink’s new project and should garner continuous spins.

“Rumble”

GoldLink’s sophomore release reaches its crescendo with this jittery composition, which partners him with Lil Nei and Jackson Wang. Produced by Rascal, this hypnotic soundscape matches a plush instrumentation with digitized percussion, over which Link and his co-conspirators reel off dexterous stanzas that will keep listeners revisiting this cut too many times to count.

BlocBoy JB: I Am Me

“Who Ya Tryna Scare”

BlocBoy JB opens up his new long-player to the tune of sinister keys on this rollicking selection. Produced by Nell, who cooks up a soundscape eerily similar to JB’s Top 5 hit “Look Alive,” this number finds the Memphis rep in his comfort zone, reporting live from the front-lines of the trap.

“Everyday”

Listeners get insight into the rapper’s daily operations on this inspirational track, which finds him marveling at his meteoric rise. Rhyming alongside Moneybagg Yo, JB and his costar maneuver over this slapper produced by Sool Got Hits, resulting for one of the more memorable moments on the project.

“Let Me Know”

Beef get waged and once-trusted circles are broken on this somber number, which includes a feature from Lil Durk, who adds to his growing list of guest verses from this year. Produced by Dmac, this highlight captures BlocBoy JB’s more melodic sensibilities and gets our nod of approval.**

Lil Keed: Long Live Mexico

“Tip Top”

Lil Keed is joined by fellow ATLiens Guap Tarantino and MSA PG on this enticing offering on his latest collection, which finds the trio putting on for the Peach State. Boasting production from Turbo & Keyz, this boisterous salvo captures Keed and company hitting on all cylinders as they detail their lifestyle of debauchery.

“Pull Up”

Producer 20 and JetsonMade provide the backdrop for this standout track. Featuring guest spots from Lil Uzi Vert and embattled rapper YNW Melly, this flute-heavy tune finds all three spitters channeling their aggression, while running up a check.

“Proud of Me”

Lil Keed closes his project’s proceedings on a high note, liberating this remix to Young Thug’s leak of the same name, which he first previewed earlier this year. Produced by Goose, this number finds Keed blending his vocals with Thugger’s in seamless fashion, as the two warblers account for one of the album’s stronger selections.
