Future and Ciara’s son, Future Jr., celebrated his 5th birthday on Sunday (May 19).

The superhero-themed birthday bash was filled with candy, cupcakes, and face paint, but one gift, in particular, caused a stir online. Taking to Instagram, Future uploaded a video of himself gifting his son with a Rolex watch, as seen ahead. “Happy birthday,” he said in the clip to which baby Future replied “Thanks.”

In another post, the “Fine China” rapper captioned a photo of his son looking down at his new watch with Meek Mill lyrics, writing, “It was somethin bout that rollie when it first touched my wrist.” While the gesture may have been innocent, many felt the gift was excessive and unnecessary for a child Future’s age.

“Future copped his lil man a Rolex for his Bday and he woulda been just fine with some Sour Patch Kids,” one user tweeted. “Baby future waiting til tomorrow so he can trade in that Rolex for a pack of gum & jolly ranchers in the playground,” another user chimed.

And then there were others who felt the reactions to Future’s gift were being blown out of proportion.

“Future had a whole superhero themed birthday party full of toys for baby future and y’all only focusing on the Rolex he got. Damn y’all weird as hell,” one fan wrote in his defense. “His money, his son, his damn business!” another person added.

Meanwhile, Russell Wilson took to Instagram to share a heartfelt post of his own about his stepchild.

“From the moment we came into each other’s worlds to now… 5 years later, you have changed my life and my heart for the better,” the NFL player shared. “You are the greatest gift I could have ever asked God for! I will always love you, guide you, teach you, and care for you. Happy 5th Birthday Future! Papa Russ Loves you!”
