NBA YoungBoy narrowly escaped death in Miami over the weekend.
The 19-year-old rapper and members of his entourage were shot at outside of the Trump Beach Resort on Mother’s Day (May 12). At least one person died, TMZ reports.
Eyewitnesses at the scene believe the Louisiana native was the intended target, although his direct involvement in the shooting is unknown at press time. Video footage obtained by TMZ shows several bystanders and paramedics racing towards YoungBoy’s car where the alleged victims were.
Currently, there are unconfirmed reports that YoungBoy’s girlfriend, Kay Marie, was injured during the melee. She allegedly suffered a gunshot wound when the shots rang out.
Additionally, TMZ is reporting YoungBoy’s security may be responsible for taking down the shooter. According to the site, someone was “definitely taken away in a stretcher,” but it was not the rapper himself. He was in town to perform at the annual Rolling Loud music festival.
The Aventura Police Department is investigating a correlation between a shooting that happened in their jurisdiction and the one involving YoungBoy to see “if it might be related.”
Meanwhile, YoungBoy (real name Kentrell DeSean Gaulden) has found himself in a string of legal troubles as of lately. Earlier this year, he was arrested in Atlanta for marijuana possession, use of fighting words and physical obstruction following an altercation with a housekeeper at a hotel.
In February 2018, the “Outside Today” rapper was arrested in Tallahassee, FL due to an outstanding kidnapping warrant. He was released on $75k bond and later charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault by a grand jury.
In November 2016, YoungBoy was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Texas for allegedly opening fire on a group of people in a drive-by shooting in his hometown. He was in jail for eight months for attempted first-degree murder before a judge sentenced him to a suspended 10-year prison term and three years probation.
