Rihanna is making boss moves with her latest Fenty venture.
On Friday (May 10), the 31-year-old pop star announced her fashion line, Fenty, with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s largest luxury group. With the first products from the company expected to launch in the coming weeks, Rihanna will become the first woman to create an original brand under the LVMH umbrella. She will also become the first woman of color spearheading an LVMH maison, as the New York Times points out. The luxury group hosts noted luxury brands such as Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, and Céline.
According to the New York Times report, the brand will be based in Paris and include “ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories.” In a statement from LVMH, the group made sure to note that Fenty will be “centered on Rihanna, developed by her, and takes shape with her vision.” In other words, the singer-turned-business-mogul will be very hands-on when it comes to the decisions being made for her fashion house.
“Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us,” Rihanna said in a statement. “Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”
Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH, also sung Rih’s praises. “Everybody knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real C.E.O. and a terrific leader,” he said in his own statement. In 2017, LVMH partnered with Fenty to create and distribute the mega-profitable Fenty Beauty line which is projected to be worth $1 billion this year.
“She naturally finds her full place within LVMH,” he continued. “To support Rihanna to start up the Fenty Maison, we have built a talented and multicultural team supported by the Group resources.”
Fenty originally launched in February 2016 as Fenty x Puma under an agreement with the iconic athletic brand. In May 2018, Rihanna launched Savage x Fenty, an inclusive lingerie line which catered to women of all shapes and sizes. Her latest venture with Fenty will be the first new house created by LVMH since Christian Lacroix in 1987. Check out a sneak peek of the logo ahead.
Congrats again on making HistoRIH, Rihanna!
