On Sunday, March 31, the hip hop world was shook to the core when news broke that one of our own, rapper/entrepreneur/activist Nipsey Hussle, was shot and killed right in front of his The Marathon clothing store.

As many fans of the now-late artist knew, Hussle was a major staple in his community. Aside from his rap career, which was going full steam ahead – and garnered him his first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album for his debut album, 2018’s Victory Lap – the star was extremely vocal about helping kids in his community — the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles, California — see their fullest potential and have better futures.

Before his untimely passing, Hussle launched a STEM program and co-working space in his hometown, and often gave kids encouraging words in order for them to be the best they can be. The star was even supposed to have a meeting with high-ranking members of the LAPD the day after his passing to speak about how kids in his community can be better protected and served.

Due to Hussle’s many charitable initiatives, California Congresswoman Karen Bass announced that the L.A. legend’s contributions to society will be stamped in American history. “I will be heading to the House Floor next week to formally enter Nipsey Hussle’s contributions to South Los Angeles into the Congressional Record where it will be a part of United States history forever,” she recently tweeted.

Since his death, countless members of the entertainment community, as well as his friends and family members, have reacted to the immense loss. From YG, J. Cole, Drake, the rapper’s longtime love and mother of his youngest child, Lauren London; and even REVOLT TV chairman, Sean “Diddy” Combs; many people are incredibly heartbroken by his tragic death.

“Wow. I don’t even know what to say. I’m confused. Nipsey and I had just started really getting to know each other. I feel honored to have worked on his project,” Combs recently shared on IG. “Nipsey represents change, he represents evolution, he represents everything our culture needs to embrace. Black ownership. Black love. Black wealth. God bless you and your family King.”
