After eight years of marriage, Grammy Award-winning singer Monica has reportedly filed from divorce from her former NBA star husband, Shannon Brown.
As reported by TMZ, the R&B singer officially filed divorce papers earlier this month. The couple shares a five-year-old daughter, Laiyah, as well as co-parents Romelo and Rocko, who are from Monica’s previous relationship with rapper Rodney “Rocko” Hill.
It was initially speculated that the couple split in October 2018. Monica appeared to address the rumors on Instagram by sharing a photo of her with Brown alongside Kobe Bryant and his wife Vanessa later that same month.
Fans have been quick to point out that in recent weeks, the singer hasn’t been photographed while wearing her wedding ring.
The couple got married in 2010 after the former Laker player co-starred in the music video for Monica’s “Love All Over Me.” As previously reported, the couple had both a private ceremony (in November 2010) and a lavish, star-studded wedding in Atlanta (July 2011).
At the time, Monica weighed in on their then-budding relationship during an interview with Rap-Up, sharing, “We don’t keep secrets, we have a great time, we share each other’s jobs, and we share each other’s interests.
At the time of this report, it is unclear whether or not Monica is seeking child or spousal support. Per TMZ, she was unable to seal the divorce documents, which were filed in Atlanta at the beginning of this month.
Neither Monica nor Shannon Brown have yet issued a statement commenting on the matter.
